Andy Hicks was a beloved colleague and friend to many. He passed away on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020, at St. Wilfrid’s Hospice after a courageous battle with a brain tumour. Andy considered Stonepillow his family, as they supported him during one of the most challenging times in his life. With the compassion and guidance of the Stonepillow teams, he successfully completed his journey with us and later became a dedicated member of staff.

As a Worker at the Chichester Hostel and Hub, Andy inspired countless clients, making a meaningful difference in their lives—just as Stonepillow staff had done for him. In his honour, we named our new higher-support flats Hicks House, which opened in 2021. Shortly before he passed, we were able to share the news that funding from Homes England would allow us to develop the Lodge site, where his journey with Stonepillow had first begun, to build these studio flats. Andy felt deeply honoured to know his legacy of resilience and encouragement would continue as a lasting symbol of hope over hardship.

Today, on October 29th, 2024, we will plant a tree in his honour outside Hicks House. This tree has been generously donated by Mrs. Katharine Minchin, a long-time supporter and volunteer with Stonepillow, who was also a close friend of Andy. The 29th October is also Mrs. Minchin’s 80th birthday, and we want to extend our heartfelt wishes to her on this special day, along with our deepest gratitude for her continued support to us and our clients.
