“My previous feelings of uselessness and having no self-worth diminished. I was given responsibility, I was trusted, someone believed in me”

Three easy steps to volunteering with Stonepillow

1

If you’re interested in volunteering with Stonepillow, drop by our Donations Hub and have a chat with our Volunteer & Food Donations Coordinator, Matt Simmons.  We’re at:

Unit 3, Plot 27, Terminus Road, Chichester,
PO19 8UE

2

Alternatively you can email Matt (msimmons@stonepillow.org.uk) who will invite you to meet Stonepillow staff and other volunteers. We’ll give you a tour of the relevant project or facility. We’ll explain the role more fully, and you’ll have an opportunity to tell us more about your skills and your motivation. We’ll ask you to bring two forms of ID. If the role involves working on a 1:1 basis with a client, we will carry out a DBS check.
3

Dependent on your skills and your own preferred tasks, we’ll find a great volunteering role for you within Stonepillow, so you can start to make a big difference as soon as possible.

We need volunteers in the following areas

Restore

Our charity shops in Chichester and Bognor Regis generate vital funds for Stonepillow. The shops are open seven days a week. We are always grateful to anyone who can:

  • work in one of the shops
  • drive a van, or help a van driver
  • sell goods online
  • select and organise textiles
  • carry out PAT testing
  • offer IT support
  • service bicycles

Events

We have an exciting and busy calendar of events, and so we’re always on the lookout for:

  • bucket collectors
  • event assistants
  • event marshalls
  • cake bakers
  • BIG Sleep Out volunteers
  • … and more – depending on the calendar!

Hubs and hostels

We have two day hubs and two hostels in Chichester and Bognor Regis, where we help our clients stabilise their lives and move on into accommodation with a lower level of support, or independence if they are ready. We equip them with the life skills they need to achieve this big step, and volunteers play a vital role in this.

Could you fulfil one of these vitally important roles?

  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Electricians, plumbers, painting and decorating and other trade skills
  • Translators
  • Mentors
  • Hairdressers
  • Health professionals (including dentists, therapists, holistic therapies, personal trainers)

Now I am living in Stonepillow accommodation, I have the security I need to address other issues that have been a constant worry. I can’t thank Stonepillow enough for helping sort everything out and for helping me begin to get my life back on track.

Stonepillow Client

I work five days a week Monday to Friday. Tuesday and Thursday evenings are the only days the hub is open in the evening and are the only days I can receive support without jeopardising my income.

My previous feelings of uselessness and having no self-worth diminished. I was given responsibility, I was trusted, someone believed in me.

The hub enables me to clean up, freshen up after work. As a construction worker this is perfect as I work a dirty job and there is nowhere else which can provide me with this service.

Stonepillow Client

Stonepillow's Recovery Service gave me a support network which meant I didn’t feel alone. Having a key worker and being around people in the same situation was invaluable and I learnt so much about myself.

On top of shower facilities the hub is a place where I can eat, talk and communicate with the staff and other members about my day, my feelings and any emotions I may want to get off my chest. They are amazing at what they do, and I’d hate to think what position I’d be in if this kind of help wasn’t available.
