How to help this Christmas
Christmas can be especially difficult for people who are homeless, as they cope with not only increasingly harsh weather, but also profound loneliness resulting from often having nowhere to go at the most festive time of year.
The financial pressure of Christmas can also see an increase in the number of people losing their homes and facing family and relationship breakdowns. Help us make Christmas as warm and welcoming as possible for our clients.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal
Some of our clients may not receive a present from anyone this Christmas. Help make someone’s day by donating gifts or a shoebox full of gifts to make someone feel valued and cared for. The shoe boxes full of gifts and essential items really make our clients feel that people in the local community do care about them.
This year we asked our clients what they wished for, here’s what they said:
Travel First Aid Kits
We would be grateful if you can deliver gift boxes to Stonepillow Bognor Hostel, 15 Ellasdale Road, Bognor Regis, West Sussex, PO21 2SG by Sunday 16th December 2018. The hostel is open 24hrs. Please note:
- All of the people receiving gift boxes are adults or young adults over the age of 18.
- The contents of each box do not need to be wrapped. Please wrap the boxes and lids separately to enable the contents to be checked.
- Please do not include alcohol or any products containing alcohol (this includes mouthwash, chocolate liquors, Christmas puddings etc.) or any penknives or potentially dangerous items.
Alongside a warm environment and a gift, Stonepillow also provides a traditional Christmas dinner for each of our clients. This would not be possible without the generous donations from local people, churches, businesses and of course, our wonderful volunteers who give up their time on Christmas to cook for over 100 of our clients. This includes our Supported Accommodation, Recovery, Hostel and Hub clients, and also any rough sleepers on Christmas day. We are looking for donations of the following:
Meat: Turkey, Beef, Ham
Vegetables: Potatoes, Parsnips, Carrots, Sprouts, Swede, Greens
Other: Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Gravy granules, Batter mix, Sunflower oil, Double Cream, Mince Pies, Cheese, Biscuits, Buffet items, Puddings (non alcoholic please), Soft drinks, Crackers,
Large tin foil and turkey silver trays are also really useful!
Please be aware we can’t accept any food products containing alcohol or that have passed the use-by date.
