The Recovery Service is a unique community based 12-bed residential rehabilitation service for people with drug and/or alcohol problems.  The service is designed for people who are abstinent from substances and require stabilisation, as well as for people who have completed a rehabilitation programme who request a second stage. This service is able to provide support to clients who also experience mental health problems and works with local mental health teams to deliver support.

Our residents here are all aged 18+ and are abstinent from alcohol and drugs. They can be:

  • Clients who have completed a residential rehab programme and have requested a 2nd stage programme.
  • Clients needing ongoing therapeutic support post-detox.
  • Clients needing access to education/employment/training.
  • Clients requiring general housing and support.

The Recovery Service also offers outreach support for a number of individuals. This support is prioritised on a needs lead basis. Individuals who can access this service can be waiting to attend Sands, have completed our programme and require further support, or individuals who are working towards recovery in the community and require advice/direction to achieve their goals. It provides outreach to 6 clients, who are actively working towards abstinence and recovery through accessing Stonepillow’s services.

Many of the residents here are people who first began accessing Stonepillow through Chichester Hub and Chichester Hostel. Through accessing our project workers, they were able to get themselves into a position where they were ready for recovery.

Once there, our clients remain a big part of Stonepillow. Many of the residents volunteer at our Restore project, where they learn practical skills restoring furniture and electrical goods, as well as administration skills.

Once they have completed their time there, they continue their recovery journey with Stonepillow by being housed in our move-on accommodation. This provides them with supported housing, and continued access to the tools that are vital to their continuing recovery. Specialists, including our substance misuse strategy co-ordinator, maintain contact with these residents and support them through to being housed in their own place.

The Recovery Service is unique in West Sussex in providing this service. We work with our residents to assist them not only with their abstinence, but also with their long-term aims of health, employment, family and community.

We have introduced peer mentoring as an aid to recovery, enabling those who have gone before to encourage and support those who are recovering. The service is a leading example of how recovery should be achieved. We provide a unique service that works for the majority of our clients, and Stonepillow are proud to be providing a service which benefits so many. Without this service our clients would still be struggling with addiction, but through our help and support we are able to help them achieve their goals, and move on from our service secure and strong in their recovery.
