How to help this Christmas

How to help this Christmas

Christmas can be especially difficult for people who are homeless, as they cope with not only increasingly harsh weather, but also profound loneliness resulting from often having nowhere to go at the most festive time of year. Here’s how you can help:

Reverse Advent Calendar

Our reverse advent calendar appeal is a simple and rewarding way to make a big difference this Christmas.

With a traditional advent calendar, you normally open a little door each day and receive chocolate or a treat. With the reverse advent calendar, each day you donate an item from our list and feel great that you are giving back this Christmas. Download your copy here.

These essential items really make our clients feel that people in the local community care about them. Why not get your friends, family and colleagues involved? You can donate some or all of the items on the calendar and put them into a box or bag to donate. We will distribute your kind donations to those in need across our services throughout the festive season.

Set up a regular donation to help all year round

We rely on the generosity of our supporters to donate funds towards our services. By setting up a regular donation, you can ensure we continue to support homeless and vulnerable people and help them find accommodation they can call home. Every donation, whether big or small, can make a huge difference to people’s lives.

How to set up a regular donation

  1. Set up monthly giving with a JustGiving account
It’s quick and easy to do and allows you to donate a set amount each month on a date set by you.
  2. Set up a standing order with your bank
You can download our standing order form and complete and return to admin@stonepillow.org.uk or Stonepillow Head Office, Old Glassworks, St Cyriacs, Chichester, PO19 1AJ.

Donate items for Christmas Day/Boxing Day

We will be serving a traditional Christmas dinner for each of our clients on Christmas Day, as well as those who are sleeping rough. We would also like to serve a delicious buffet on Boxing Day. Clients, staff and volunteers will celebrate together to ensure no one is left feeling isolated this Christmas. Can you help us by donating items from the list below?

Christmas Day
Carrots, potatoes, brussels sprouts, parsnips, stuffing mix, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, cooking oil, double cream, tinfoil, large foil turkey roasting trays, Christmas crackers, and napkins.

Boxing Day
Sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche, cheese, chutneys, crackers, cold meats, smoked salmon, pâté, crisps, dips, salad, coleslaw, potato salad, part-baked baguettes, butter, grapes, carrots, celery, peppers, olives, chocolate, biscuits, nuts, trifle or similar items.

Please bring all food donations to Stonepillow Chichester Hostel, St Joseph’s, Hunston Road, Chichester PO20 1NP by Friday 20th December.

Give the gift of education

We have partnered with the University of Chichester to develop a bridging module for our clients. Upon completion, clients will have the necessary qualifications to be able to apply for a degree course at the University – something which would previously have seemed unobtainable for them.

Earlier this year, we had 10 clients complete the course as part of the first ever cohort. All of them have gone on to secure their own accommodation and five of them started full-time degrees in September.

The course costs £200 per person and can literally change someone’s life. If you would like to make the dream of education a reality or find out more about the course, please contact lbulbeck@stonepillow.org.uk.

We could not make Christmas special for our clients without the generous donations and support from our local community. Thank you for your support.
