Community Fundraising
Starting the year in another lockdown has been a challenging time for so many people, and Stonepillow has been absolutely committed to ensuring we continue to provide our services to those who are homeless, vulnerably housed and rough sleeping. We cannot achieve this without the continued support from the local community, and as the days become lighter, we have a joyous spring in our step due to the incredible acts of kindness and generosity we have received over the past few months.
We have been overwhelmed by the innovative fundraising campaigns that have been generated by the community and local business. Rosie Rose staged a Virtual Fashion Show featuring clothing from a specially curated collection, donating 100% of every sale. Bishop Luffa School went on a virtual ‘Summer Holiday’ dressing up in their favourite holiday gear for school for a day. A team of volunteers at The Horse & Groom Pub in East Ashling set up a charity bakery selling homemade cakes and pastries. ‘The Operacinis and Friends’ from Chichester University staged a virtual concert performing light classical works based around spring.
With no organised events due to coronavirus, Rob Cooper decided that he would run a marathon in aid of Stonepillow. “I decided I'd like to run [a marathon] on my own for a local homeless charity to raise awareness of how hard it can be being homeless and wanted to start running at midnight at the coldest time of the year.” Starting from the Stonepillow Hostel in Bognor Regis at midnight, Rob completed 3 circuits of 8.8 miles around Bognor Regis, Aldwick and Felpham, finishing back at the Hostel at 4.10am. Residents at the hostel were there to wave Rob off and cheer him on as he passed the hostel each lap, and his wife Charlotte accompanied him on her bicycle providing the much needed support, food and drinks.
So far Rob has raised an incredible £1,880 with donations still coming in. We are truly grateful to Rob for deciding to support Stonepillow, not to mention the endless hours of hard work and dedication that went into the training! https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-cooper29
