Celebrating our Volunteers during Volunteers' Week 1-7th June

Volunteers at Stonepillow will be thanked for their contributions to the charity during Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.

We're so proud of our wonderful volunteers, some of whom have been volunteering for over 20 years.

Our volunteers support us in many ways. They help us with fundraising, bucket collections and events. Stonepillow has 22 properties across Chichester, Bognor and Littlehampton and we rely on our volunteers to help with gardening, maintenance and DIY at all of these. In the hubs and hostels, volunteers support clients to prepare and cook meals, and offer additional services such as hairdressing, acupuncture and yoga.

Our two charity shops in Chichester and Bognor are social enterprises that receive donations from the public, sort through them and distribute them to projects or sell them on. Funds raised provide income for the charity to continue to support homeless and vulnerable people. Donations of furniture and white goods are restored and recycled to be sold in the shops or used to furnish Stonepillow’s properties. There are a huge range of roles that volunteers carry out here, from van deliveries and collections, furniture restoration, bike maintenance, sorting donations and PAT testing.

Many of Stonepillow’s volunteers have also accessed or are accessing the charities services and volunteering is often part of their journey towards independent living. Volunteering enables clients to gain vital work experience and learn skills that will have a positive impact on their lives in a supportive environment, and for many provides a route to employment and opens up other opportunities.

CEO Hilary Bartle says “Stonepillow would be unable to operate without the help, hard work and dedication of our volunteers. We are incredibly lucky to work with so many people who have our clients’ best interests at heart. Our organisation is changing rapidly, and we want to ensure that volunteers are at the heart of our strategy now and in the future.  Our work would be impossible without the generosity of our dedicated and skilled volunteers, in terms of both the time they give and their commitment to helping others. Thank you so much to all of our volunteers.”

During Volunteers’ Week, we are giving thanks to our volunteers with opportunities to get involved across the charity, showing them lots of love and holding a special event to say thank you.

Hundreds of events will be taking place across the country to mark Volunteers' Week. The annual campaign, which was established in 1984, recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day.
