FAQ's

How do I Register?

Please visit our Eventbrite page and purchase a ticket. Select to register either to Sleep Out at the Cathedral or at Home. You will need to purchase a ticket for everyone taking part at the Cathedral. Click here to visit our Eventbrite page

How much is a ticket?

The ticket price is a donation of your choice

Is there an age restriction?

There is no age restriction, however anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Anyone under the age of 18 must also download and complete a parental consent form and return this to fundraising@stonepillow.org.uk no later than Wednesday 13th October 2021. Alternatively, you can print the parental consent form at home, and bring it to the event with you on the day.

There is no upper age limit, but it is your responsibility to ensure that you are healthy enough for sleeping out overnight. If in doubt, please take advice from your medical practitioner.

How do I fundraise?

We encourage participants to fundraise for Big Sleep Out by creating your own JustGiving page or by using a sponsorship form.

What is Gift aid?

If you’re a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid increases the value of your charity donations by allowing charities to reclaim the basic rate of tax on your gift at no extra cost to you. That’s a whopping 25p for every £1 you give. Please ensure that anyone who sponsors you who is a UK taxpayer ticks the gift aid box!

What happens at the event?

Registration opens at 2pm where you will be met by one of our team who will check you in for the event.

During the afternoon you will have time to build your shelter, take part in the activities on the Sleepout Lawn and watch the entertainment on the Cathedral Green.

Your shelter will need to be built in time for the official competition judging at 6pm, with the winner announced during the Ecumenical Service in the Cathedral which starts at 7pm.

After the service there will be Entertainment to watch and join in with before lights out at 10pm

Will there be food and drinks?

We will be providing hot / cold drinks throughout the afternoon, an early dinner, followed by hot drinks and snacks after the Cathedral service before bedtime.

Please bring your own water and snacks in case you get peckish during the night.

We respectfully request that you do not bring alcohol with you.

Where will I be sleeping?

The Sleepout Lawn is located to the left of Chichester Cathedral

In severe weather conditions, the Cathedral’s cloisters will offer shelter throughout the night.

Lights will be switched off at 10pm with low level lighting to guide you should you need to use the toilets.

Will I be safe?

We have policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved, and there will be qualified first aiders on hand in the event of an emergency.

All activities will be fully supervised and take place within the Cathedral’s grounds.

Night Security will be on duty overnight to ensure the safety of everyone taking part.

What should I bring with me?

Cardboard for your shelter will be provided as well as paints and tape to bring it to life.

Be creative and bring things with you decorate your shelter and make it stand out n the crowd for the competition.

Essential items you will need to help you stay warm and sleep well:

A warm sleeping bag, pillow and a sleeping mat or groundsheet.

Wrap up warm with layers of warm clothing, a couple of pairs of socks, hats and gloves.

A torch, solar or battery powered lights to help you see in you shelter or when walking around the grounds

How many people will be at the event?

There will be up to 100 people sleeping out, and only registered participants will be allowed access to the Sleepout Lawn overnight. Our team of volunteers will be on hand throughout the event to help with First Aid and problems or questions you may have.

This is a fun event to meet like-minded people, and if you are a solo participant, we will ensure you feel welcomed, looked after and are introduced to other participants if you wish to so.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Unfortunately no animals or pets may be brought to the event, with the exception of guide dogs.

Is there parking at the event?

There is no parking at the Cathedral. There are various car parks in Chichester which are a short walk to the Cathedral.  https://www.chichester.gov.uk/carparks

Where is the nearest train station

Chichester Cathedral is a 10minute walk from Chichester train station. Walk up South Street to the Cross, turn left onto West Street and the Cathedral is on your left.

Only registered participants may take part in the Big Sleep Out and all participants are required to sign to confirm they have read and understood the T&C’s when registering for the event
