2015 saw another surge in demand for Stonepillow’s range of services throughout the Bognor Regis and Chichester district. The charity is always especially busy over the winter months, and the sudden drop in temperature has made life even tougher for those on the streets.
Ian has been living on the streets for the past nine months. The 46-year-old is one of the many people currently being helped by Stonepillow. “I’ve been coming here for two months,” Ian said in January 2016. “I’m from Mid Sussex, but I came here after being in intensive care at Worthing Hospital for two weeks after a fall on the beach.”
“There’s loads of people on the streets and it’s hard, it’s hard getting through the day and nights, especially now it’s got so cold.” He said “I don’t take drugs but I do drink alcohol, although I’ve cut down big time and had help with that from Stonepillow. They are also helping me find housing. I’ve got a meeting later today to get more information, I’m hopeful.”
Following this interview, Stonepillow found accommodation for Ian and he moved in the same week. He is ‘over the moon’ and has been back to thank the Stonepillow team.
